Turner kicks off campaign for lieutenant governor

MILTON, Vt. (WCAX) A candidate for lieutenant governor kicked off his campaign Wednesday in Milton.

Rep. Don Turner

Republican Don Turner officially announced he wants to be the next lieutenant governor for the state of Vermont.

The longtime House Minority Leader told the crowd there needs to be fiscal responsibility and ways to make Vermont more affordable.
He wants to encourage young people to stay in the state.

"We work hard but we can't make enough yet to get a leg up here in Vermont. Vermonters can't seem to get ahead because the path we've been on in the last several years has, unfortunately, has made life more challenging for families and small business," Turner said.

The 53-year-old was there with his wife, Gail, and three daughters.

Former Gov. Jim Douglas and Lt. Gov. Brian Dubie also rallied Turner's supporters to vote in November.
