BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) The Vermont National Guard is lending a hand with recovery work in Texas.
Two public affairs officers and two public affairs enlisted soldiers are heading to the disaster zone this week. The Guard tells us the team will be based in Camp Mabry in Austin. They will support the Texas Guard's public affairs team in handling media coverage of the recovery from Harvey.
"We're very excited to go down and be able to support a mission like this. Other states have come to our aid in the past like with Hurricane Irene in 2011, so we're excited and ready to actually help back," said Capt. Jace Rivard, a public affairs officer with the Vermont National Guard.
The team will be in Texas for nine days but said they could stay longer if they are needed.
