COLCHESTER, Vt. (WCAX) Vermont paused to honor its fallen heroes Friday.
Veterans, former POWs, friends and family gathered at Camp Johnson in Colchester for a remembrance ceremony. They were there to honor prisoners of war and those soldiers still missing in action.
Guard members and military personnel hope this day will serve as a reminder they should never be forgotten.
"We need to remember these folks they served, they served their nation at a time of need. They gave practically the ultimate sacrifice and many of them did give the ultimate sacrifice, they gave their lives," said Kenneth Stratton, the chief of staff for the Vermont State Guard.
POWs, including several from World War II, were on hand to be recognized for their service to the country.
