BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) It's time to break out the hunter orange for yourself and your pets if you're heading out in the woods. That's because bear hunting season starts Friday.
The state says the hunting seasons help manage the state's population of about 5,400 bears.
Last year, hunters bagged nearly 700 bears.
If you do get a bear, you're now required to pull one of the small premolar teeth for the state to study.
One note-- if you're in southern Vermont and you spot a bear with a yellow ear tag and GPS collar, don't shoot it. They're tracking those bears for a study.
