Vt. lawmaker pleads guilty to DUI charge

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) A Chittenden County state senator charged with drunken driving will pay a $300 fine.

Sen. Deborah Ingram

In a deal with prosecutors, 55-year-old Deborah Ingram Thursday pleaded guilty to a DUI in Williston last month. Police say she drove into a ditch near her home after striking an object. Her blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit.

In a statement she said she had been getting treatment through a 12-Step program and had a temporary setback.

In addition to the fine and a 3 month suspended sentence, Ingram must also complete safe driving course, receive alcohol treatment, and execute releases to verify her compliance with treatment.

The Democrat was elected to the Senate last year. She sits on the Education, and Health and Welfare Committees.
