MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) A group of Vermont lawmakers tasked with shaping the design of the planned merger of the liquor and lottery departments meets for the first time Thursday.

The merger was one of several executive orders proposed by Gov. Phil Scott to merge departments after taking office. He has said the new department under one commissioner would unify distribution operations and eliminate redundancies.

Gov. Scott recently announced that Daniel Rachek will take over as head the Vermont Lottery Commission come November. Patrick Delaney has been Commissioner of the Department of Liquor Control since February 2016.

The Department of Liquor and Lottery Task Force meets Thursday morning at the Statehouse. They are supposed to come up with a plan for lawmakers to sign off on this coming session.
