Welch, Stefanik sponsor amendment to restore Lake Champlain funding

WASHINGTON (WCAX) The U.S. House has approved a bipartisan effort to protect water quality around Lake Champlain.

Thursday night, the House of Representatives approved an amendment from Rep. Peter Welch, D-Vermont, and Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-New York. It restores $4.4 million in federal funding for the Lake Champlain Basin Program. The amendment rejects President Trump's and the House Appropriations Committee's recommendations to eliminate funding.

Welch and Stefanik both said Lake Champlain is critical to the region.
