Welch discusses net neutrality with Burlington business leaders

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) Burlington business leaders met with Congressman Peter Welch to discuss net neutrality.

The Federal Communications Commission recently rolled back regulations on net neutrality. A round table discussion Friday was an opportunity for some business leaders to voice their concerns about how the net neutrality changes will impact them.

Welch says major internet service providers are now in a position to block or throttle startup businesses, something that would be devastating for rural Vermont. He says he is going to do his part to block or repeal the FCC decision.

"The internet service providers are in a position to discriminate, to charge big users less, and small users more," Welch said.

Senate Democrats this week vowed to force a vote later this year on the new rules.
