CVU Ends Essex's Gymnastics Dominance

ESSEX JUNCTION, Vt. (WCAX) After a 12-year run of dominance, Essex saw its title streak in gymnastics come to an end Saturday at the hands of CVU.

Montpelier entered the day as the third seed, and they backed it up by putting on a strong performance. Zoey Dubios here on the beam, she posted a score of 8.800, the Solons with a team total of 125.225 to claim third place.

But this was really all about two schools duking it out for the crown. Host Essex entered the day as the 12-time defending state champs in the sport, but were the second seed after falling to undefeated CVU earlier in the year.

Allison Green with a strong day for the Hornets, she posted scores of 8.7 or better in each of the four events, that included and astounding 9.575 in the floor exercise.

Anna Charland put up a 9.5 on beam and followed that up with a strong showing in floor, Essex with a team total of 140.575

But it would prove to be unlucky #13 for EHS. CVU lived up to it's top seed, Tali Giubardo is just a sophomore, but she led the Redhawks with 35.75 points over her four events.

Lexie Cody strong as well with a 7.9 here on bars as part of her 33.4 total, the team posting a 142.325, CVU ends Essex's long reign by less than two points!
