LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WCAX) The Middlebury Field Hockey team cruised to a 4-0 win over Messiah Sunday in Louisville to claim the program's third National Championship and second in three years. The Panthers got three goals in an eight minute span in the first half to take a commanding lead and added one in the second to seal the victory.
As strong as Middlebury has been this season, this could be considered a bit of an upset: Messiah hadn't lost a game since September 1st, 2016. Their streak of 44 consecutive wins included last season's national championship game, as well as a quarterfinal win over Middlebury.
It's the 36th team NCAA Championship in Middlebury school history.
