CASTLETON, Vt. -- Mount Abraham built a big lead and held off a late rally from Fair Haven to win the Division Two softball state championship 6-4 Friday evening at Castleton University.

The top seeded Eagles, powered by a three run third inning and a two run fifth, built a 6-1 lead heading into the sixth inning. Audrey Shahan, Shea Layn and Lenna McArdle all helping the cause with RBI hits.

Fair Haven would cut the lead to two with a three run top of the sixth. A bases loaded single from Sydney Rathbun and an error leading to three Slater runs, but Fair Haven could get no closer.

For Mount Abraham, it’s a second straight D-2 state title and third straight finals appearance.
