BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) South Burlington, Windsor, and Lake Region all won baseball state championships Saturday at Centennial Field.
The Wolves jumped out to a 3-0 lead on county rival Colchester in the D-1 championship before the Lakers rallied to tie the game. But in the top of the fifth, Ben Tate poked a ball off the end of his bat that dropped on the right field line to drive in two runs and give South Burlington a 5-3 win. It's their first title since 2007.
The Windsor Yellow Jackets blew open a tight contest with a five-run fifth to earn a 10-2 win over Green Mountain in the D-3 title game. Seth Balch pitched a complete game as Windsor completed a football-basketball-baseball trifecta in the 2017-18 school year.
The Lake Region Rangers got a 15-strikeout complete game shutout from Parker Brown to earn a 1-0 win over Lamoille in the D-2 championship game. Dylan Gagnon drove in the only run of the game in the top of the seventh as the Rangers claimed the first baseball title in school history.
