Sunday morning Olympic update

PEYONGCHANG, South Korea Saranac Lake's Chris Mazdzer wins a silver medal in the Luge on Sunday morning. Mazdzer entered the final run in first place, but ends up 0.026 behind winner, David Gleirscher of Austria. Taylor Morris of Lake Placid finished 18th. Tucker West was 26th.

In men's Nordic Skiing, UVM grad Scott Patterson, in his Olympic debut, finished 18th in the men Skiathlon. Dartmouth grad, Patrick Caldwell finished 51st.

UVM Grad and Lake Placid native Lowell Bailey finished 33rd in the men's 15K Skiathlon. Tim Burke from Paul Smiths, New York finished 47th and Lake Placid's Leif Nordgren was 58th. Conway Center, New Hampshire's Sean Doherty finished 65th.

Montpelier's Amanda Pelkey and the USA women's hockey team beat Finland Sunday morning, 3-1 in Group A preliminary round play. The U.S. faces the Olympic Athletes from Russia on Tuesday.

The U.S. won its first gold medal of the 2018 Winter Games in Snowboarding. 17 year old Red Gerard from Colorado, was sitting in last place heading into the third and final run in Slopestyle. He earned a 87.16 from the judges on the final run, putting him in first place. One of those slopestyle judges is Underhill native, Connor Manning. A couple of Canadians round out the top 3, Max Parrot wins silver, Marc McMorris takes home bronze.
