Shelburne, Vermont - June 11, 2009
A Shelburne teacher is flying high tonight... well almost.
Eve Dubois received a standing ovation from parents and her students when it was announced she had received a special honor. Dubois will represent Vermont in Alabama next week and receive astronaut training at the United States Rocket Center in Huntsville, Ala.
Thursday was the last day of classes at the Renaissance School in Shelburne and the school year concluded with a special musical performance. When Dubois is not playing the flute she is trying to energize students about science and math.
"We try to do lots of hands on activities at schools," she said.
Asked if she would like to be an astronaut, Dubois said, "I don't think I have that option... I dreamed of it as a child. I am not sure I can do that."
Dubois is one of 280 teachers in the country and the only Vermonter who will be going to Astronaut School.
