NEWBURYPORT, Mass. (AP) - A tanker truck carrying more than 10,000 gallons of gasoline rolled on its side during a crash in Newburyport that sent 10 people to the hospital and closed both directions of Interstate 95 for hours.
Later Monday, an accident toppled an electric pole, briefly closing Interstate 95/Route 128 about 25 miles south.
In the earlier crash, state police said an SUV collided with the tanker in the northbound lanes about 9:15 a.m. Monday. The tanker, owned by Aranco Oil of Concord, N.H., slid on its side and hit two other vehicles.
Southbound lanes reopened about six hours later, while two northbound lanes reopened about an hour after that.
Environmental officials say the truck leaked up to 9,000 gallons. A neighborhood was evacuated and nearby public water wells shut down as a precaution.
