CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire is getting nearly $1.5 million over three years to train 1,800 counselors for a state suicide-prevention program.
The New Hampshire chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness is getting the funds for Connect, which has helped the New Hampshire National Guard provide counseling to soldiers and their families.
Michael Cohen, NAMI executive director, said the funds will be used to train communities, law enforcement, faith leaders, military and others in suicide prevention and support services.
Sen. Jeanne Shaheen announced the funds Tuesday. She said the organization has provided training to over 4,000 New Hampshire residents.
