Major School Bond Votes in Chittenden County Today

Burlington, Vermont - October 6, 2009

Two school districts in Chittenden County are holding bond votes today. If they are approved officials could apply for interest-free school improvement loans offered under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Vermont received an allocation $25 million dollars to use under the ARRA.

The Mount Mansfield Union School District is asking voters to approve a $1.3 million bond for energy efficiency updates at Mount Mansfield Union High School and Browns River Middle School in Jericho and Camels Hump Middle School in Richmond.

The Underhill School District wants a $1.2 million bond to replace parts of the roof and update electric systems at the Underhill Central School.

If the amount the schools will save in energy costs is subtracted from the amount each district will have to borrow, each district's annual payments will end up being below $20,000.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters in the Mount Mansfield School District can vote at the Bolton Town Office, the Huntington Town Office, Jericho Elementary School, the Richmond Town Office and Underhill Town Hall. Underhill School District voters can cast their ballots at the Underhill Town Hall.
