Primary Date May Move

Montpelier, Vermont - October 30, 2009

Vermont may have to move its primary date earlier because of a new federal law.

Right now the primary is scheduled for next September 14th.

But a new federal law requires absentee ballots to be sent out at least 45 days before the November second election. So Vermont may have to move its primary to August to be in compliance.

But states can apply for a waiver.
