Lawyer Claims Slaughterhouse Behavior Provoked

Grand Isel, Vermont - November 8, 2009

The lawyer for a Grand Isle slaughterhouse shut down for allegedly mistreating animals says the under cover investigator provoked the bad behavior.

State and Federal Officials shut down Bushways slaughterhouse last month after the Humane Society showed a video with days-old calves being dragged, kicked and shocked with electric prods. Lawyer Peter Langrock says the investigator encouraged a plant worker to sprinkle water on a calf to increase the shock it would feel from a cattle prod. The humane society denies the charge.
