Lamontagne files for Gregg's seat

Associated Press - November 9, 2009 6:25 PM ET

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire activist Ovide Lamontagne is running for the U.S. Senate.

Lamontagne, a conservative who ran for governor as a Republican in 1996, says he filed papers Monday with the Federal Election Commission to seek the seat now held by U.S. Sen. Judd Gregg, RN.H.

Calling himself an "independent minded conservative," Lamontagne said he's running on behalf of New Hampshire taxpayers, families and businesses and wants to bring fiscal sanity to Washington.

Former state Attorney General Kelly Ayotte, a Republican, declared her candidacy for the Senate seat Saturday.

Gregg is not seeking re-election in 2010.
