Montpelier, Vermont - November 9, 2009
The state of Vermont won a settlement with AT&T to protect cell phone customers.
AT&T is in the process of taking over Unicel's territory. The company told customers they had to switch over to avoid losing service, but they were forced to pay a penalty if they terminated their Unicel contracts early.
Under the settlement with Vermont's Attorney General, AT&T will return the early termination fees. AT&T will also send free AT&T phones to current Unicel subscribers who were affected by the settlement and continue the customers' existing rates.
