NYPD: 4th UN mission receives package with power

Associated Press - November 10, 2009 2:15 PM ET

NEW YORK (AP) - A fourth foreign mission to the United Nations has received a package containing a suspicious powder. But New York City police officials say initial tests show none contain any hazardous substance.

The latest envelop was reported on Tuesday morning at the German mission. The other three arrived Monday at the missions of France, Austria and Uzbekistan.

Paul Browne, a spokesman for the New York Police Department, says all four envelopes had Dallas, Texas, postmarks, and at least one contained a note referring to al-Qaida.

Richard Kolko, an FBI spokesman, says his office is trying to locate the sender.

As a precaution, hazardous material units decontaminated employees who handled the envelopes.

Austria's U.N. ambassador, Thomas Mayr-Harting, says work at his mission is almost back to normal.
