WANTAGH, N.Y. (AP) - Falling debris from a barrier wall has led to multiple car crashes on a suburban New York parkway in Wantagh (WAHN'-tah).

State police say there were no major injuries in Saturday's accident on the Southern State Parkway.

They say that an unrelated earlier accident on the Wantagh State Parkway overpass caused a barrier to crumble and rain debris down on the Southern State Parkway below about 6 p.m.

Trooper Tammy Mickoliger says that about 10 cars were involved in fender-benders or struck the debris.

She says the westbound Southern State Parkway at exit 27 will be closed to traffic for an undetermined time as the accident is cleared away.

Southbound Wantagh parkway is also shut down in the vicinity.
