Figure Skater Arrested in Lake Placid

Lake Placid, New York - November 18, 2009

A Russian figure skater has been arrested for allegedly stealing a car and driving drunk in Lake Placid.

Police say 23-year-old Andrei Lutai, of St. Petersburg, Russia, allegedly took a car from a business on Sunday. He was stopped a few minutes later and arrested. Officers say at that time they discovered Lutai was under the influence.

Lutai is considered an up-and-coming figure skating competitor and was competing in Skate America in Lake Placid the day before his arrest.

He is being held in the Essex County Jail on $100,00 bail. Lutai faces a number of charges including aggravated driving while intoxicated, which is usually brought when blood alcohol content is over twice the legal limit. He plans to plead not guilty when he appears in court.
