St. Albans, Vermont – November 20, 2009
There was dramatic escape from a burning apartment building for a handicapped man in St. Albans. Fire crews were called to the six unit apartment house on North Main Street late this afternoon. The fire started in one of the lower level units.
A man who lives upstairs says he only got out because a neighbor ran to warn the family about the fire and because he accidentally fell down the stairs. Everyone in the building got out safely. Firefighters rescued several pets. They say the fire started in a bedroom in a first floor apartment. That unit is a total loss. It's not clear what started the fire.
