Elderly Man Not Competent for Shooting

White River Junction, Vermont - November 24, 2009

A judge says an elderly West Windsor man accused of shooting at his neighbor is not competent to stand trial.

William Burch, 77, was charged with aggravated assault in August for allegedly firing 25 shots at his neighbor on Bald Hill Road.

Lawyers in the case say Burch had stopped taking his medication for bi-polar disorder. And a state mental health expert who examined Burch says he is not mentally fit to aid in his defense.
