BRATTLEBORO, Vt. (AP) - Vermont State Police say a Brattleboro man was in critical condition after hanging himself in a police department holding cell.
Police say 33-year-old Erich McLellan was charged with aggravated assault Thursday after he allegedly brandished a knife during a confrontation with several people. He was taken to the Brattleboro Police Department where he was placed in a holding cell.
Police say McLellan was later found in the cell hanging from his T-shirt.
He was flown to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., where he was initially listed in critical condition. A nursing supervisor there would not give information about his condition late Friday, or say whether he was still being treated.
