Brattleboro, Vermont - December 1, 2009
Police say they cracked a tri-state crime spree masterminded by two men from Brattleboro.
32-year-old Kenneth Watkins and 23-year-old John Prada, both of Brattleboro, have both been charged with multiple burglaries throughout Windham County. Police say they broke into homes and businesses stealing jewelry, electronics and other valuables, then sold the loot to a local pawn shop.
Both men were arraigned on the Vermont charges Tuesday morning. And police are investigating their involvement in similar crimes in New Hampshire and Massachusetts.
"The investigations in New Hampshire and Massachusetts are ongoing. I do not know if charges have been filed in those states on Mr. Prada and Mr. Watkins. The investigation involved law enforcement from Vermont, New Hampshire and Massachusetts, and they worked collectively to solve the burglaries," said Deputy State's Attorney Steve Brown.
Both men have extensive criminal records. They pleaded not guilty to Tuesday's charges and are being held for lack of cash bail.
