CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - A special legislative committee is giving New Hampshire school districts a vote of support for millions of dollars in proposed construction projects.
The committee decided Tuesday against interfering with planned school construction projects being presented to voters for approval this spring. The panel had talked earlier about asking the Legislature to immediately suspend state support for new projects.
Instead, the panel voted Tuesday to ask lawmakers to consider suspending state aid but not before June 30. Committee members said withdrawing state aid could doom the projects since the state pays up to 60 percent of the cost.
The committee is studying reforms to the program and has another year to issue a final report.
