Detectives determine cause of Killington snowboarder death

Killington, Vermont - December 29, 2009

Vermont State Police detectives say massive internal injuries are to blame for a snowboarder's death at Killington Resort on Christmas Eve.

Twenty-year-old Alex Westphal of Cheshire, Conn., was found unconscious on an expert trail around noon Thursday. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. Now detectives say it appears Westphal hit an object like a pole or a signpost, but he was wearing a helmet.

Westphal was on vacation with his family when he died and even sent his parents a cell phone picture of the mountain about ten minutes before the accident.
