RUTLAND, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont judge is refusing to delay transfer of custody of a 7-year-old girl who has been at the center of a long-running dispute between a former lesbian couple.

Vermont Family Court Judge William Cohen has ordered that Lisa Miller of Winchester, Va., turn over her child Isabella to Janet Jenkins of Fair Haven on Friday in Virginia.

But Cohen's order says Miller has "disappeared" with Isabella.

Jenkins attorney Sarah Star says the hope is that Miller will comply with the order.

Star says Jenkins wants to make the transfer as smooth as possible for Isabella.

Lisa Miller and Janet Jenkins of Fair Haven were joined in a Vermont civil union in 2000. The couple broke up in 2003.

Lisa Miller renounced homosexuality and has fought visitation.
