Connecting Vt. businesses with customers

Jericho, Vermont - January 5, 2010

Mauranda Dalzeil is a small business owner herself. She believes that the buy local movement is what is going to keep our Vermont economy afloat in times like these.

"The whole buy local slogan is really huge for us so we really wanted to incorporate that into our business in any way that we could," said Dalzeil, of VIP Consulting.

Dalzeil's consulting firm decided to start the www.PromoteVT.com website to bring the small business community together in a way that is financially manageable for them.

"Small Vermont businesses you know especially right now with the economy-- yes it's doing a little better but companies are still feeling the pinch," she said. "So we wanted to be able to help the small businesses or even the medium big Vermont sized businesses but have a cost effective way for them to market themselves."

Dalzeil sells each day of the calendar year to a local business and on the day she uses social media outlets like Facebook and Twitter-- as well as the main site promote vt.com-- to tell people about services offered by the business of the day.

The cost of the service corresponds with the day of the year people chose to buy, so Jan. 1 was $1 and as the days continue the price increases.

Small business owners who sign up for the service say it is helping them get up to speed with the times.

"The phone book has always been the way to go in the past but obviously that's changing with computers so I'm trying to keep, let's say, progressive," said Walter Hauserman of Allstate.

Hauserman says Vermonters need to join together to work through the tough economic times.

"We're all here together we might as well try to help each other instead of against each other," Hauserman said.
