Employees stock the shelves at the Hannaford Supermarket in Bradford getting ready for Saturday's grand opening. The store's manager, Bob Molinario, say the business will be an anchor for economic activity in the area.
"Because of the central location, accessibility and convenience of this location, it's going to really make their dollar even more valuable," Molinario said.
But don't take his word for it; just ask shoppers who plan to frequent the store.
"Especially on weekends if you run out of stuff that you get when you are up to Walmart, or where ever you shop. And good for seniors," shopper Evelyn Dobbins said.
Local small businesses hope to capitalize on the crowds the store is expected to bring.
"We think it will bring more business to the town," said Holly Austin, who works at the Local Buzz coffee shop. "Hopefully people will come here for coffee before they go to Hannaford's or after. We think it is great."
And even bigger establishments like Farm-Way, which is a destination itself, like the idea of giving people an option to shop in town, rather than having to travel to the next closest supermarket in Woodsville or West Lebanon.
"One of the greatest things that has happened in Bradford in 50 years," said Paul Gallerani of Farm-Way. "We just need a real solid grocery store. It's a center for people to shop in a 15 mile radius and we are going to bring a lot of people back to Bradford who haven't shopped in Bradford for a long time."
The first 250 shoppers who enter the store Saturday will receive gift certificates as part of the grand opening celebration. But if you talk to people in this community, just news of the impending opening means the party has already begun.
