Most people called Kathryn Borneman, Kaye. She moved to Vermont over six years ago -- driving herself more than 3,000 miles from California -- to take a job at Dealer.com.
Robert Courrigan said, "She was almost like our daughter." She's been renting the upstairs of Robert Courrigan's house ever since. Courrigan said, "She was very forthcoming, and would do anything in the world for you and never had a problem with anything."
Courrigan and his wife say Kaye was more than just a tenant -- she was a good friend. And that she was well-liked by many in the Burlington community.
Friend Tamar Bouchard reflected saying, "She was all about friends she had so so many friends. I was just one of hundreds of people who loved Kaye." Tamar Bouchard worked with Kaye for three years at Dealer.com -- and made the workplace fun. "If there was a way to make things more fun or more enthusiastic or more uplifting Kaye would find a way to make that happen. She was the most wonderful person," Bouchard recalled. Courrigan added, "She put her heart and soul into it, just like she seemed to do everything else."
Police notified Courrigan about Kaye's death early Monday morning. He then told the victim's father and brother in California -- about the tragic crash. "I was up at 4:30 this morning looking to see if I saw her car out there because I thought it was a terrible dream but it wasn't," Courrigan said.
A nightmare that has left friends and family in two states grieving. "Anytime there was a chance to have a festivity and celebrate life Kay was all about it that's why this is harsh. It's because she was such a lively full of life encouraging happy person," said Bouchard.
