
Government advisers says parents need warnings that adult anti-depressants may sometimes increase the possibilty of suicide in children and teens.
The FDA is holding public hearings to determine if drugs used to treat depression in adults, like Paxil and Zoloft, actually increase the risk of suicide in young people.
Until they're able to answer that question.. FDA advisers want parents and doctors to be more cautious if choosing an adult drug to treat depression in children.
The FDA has only approved Prozac for use in patients younger than 18.
New technology may help spot cancer sooner. The national cancer institute has begun a major study to prove a new blood test detects early relapses of ovarian cancer. The test looks at protein patterns in the blood that can show when normal cells turn cancerous.
The FDA has not yet approved the test, but some national testing labratories are already putting it to use.
A new poll finds most Americans aren't worried about Mad Cow disease. Fewer than one in five are concerned they or a family member will get the disease. At the same time, 16 percent say they or a family member have stopped ordering beef at restaurants and 14 percent say they've stopped buying beef at the supermarket.
