A young girl who was bitten by a dog will not have to go through a series of rabies shots.
The six year-old was bitten at Airport Park in Colchester while she was sitting on a tire swing Saturday. The girl was hospitalized, with what police call a pretty big gash on her back. Police began a search for the dog and its owner to make sure the animal was vaccinated.
The owner has been identified and the dog is up to date on its shots. Police say the little girl is doing okay and she won't have to undergo treatment for possible rabies exposure.
