How far would you go to promote a cause? How about 25 miles ... on a skateboard?
Nick Costello has been driving to Jeffersonville three days a week to work on an organic farm. But Sunday he decided to cap off his summer job with a more environmentally friendly way of getting to work -- on a longboard. It's a long skateboard designed for the challenges of the open road. The UVM student recruited some friends to bike the 25 miles alongside him. "I hope that more people will look at longboarders like bikers and respect them, know they're in control, and are able to use longboards as a form of transportation," Costello said.
"Biking and alternative means of transportation can be really fun," said Ali Ascherio, a UVM student who was biking to Jeffersonville. "We're going to have a good time and that's half of it. We wouldn't be doing this if it weren't fun."
The group hopes their ride will also raise awareness about organic farming. They'll be volunteering on the farm Monday before making the 25-mile trip back to Burlington from Jeffersonville.
