Burlington, Vermont - November 10, 2008
A new national report has officials in Vermont concerned.
The report shows students that attend college in Vermont leave with a lot of debt. The average student after leaving a four year institution has $24,329 in debt, fourth highest in the nation. It is blamed mostly on the rising cost of education, which jumped six percent for a public college in Vermont last year. Officials are concerned that student debt loads may prompt young people to leave the state.
Students in Iowa have the most debt, paying more than $26,000.
