Want to experience New England's worst winter weather like reporter Keagan Harsha did in his story "Destination Recreation: Mount Washington?" The Mount Washington Observatory has two more scheduled trips to the summit in 2009. The day trips cost $179 a person and participants must first become members of the Mount Washington Observatory. Adventure seekers must also have all the proper safety equipment. For information on that check out the link below:
More than 100 hikers and climbers have died while visiting Mount Washington. Many were unprepared and either fell or froze to death. Those incidents are documented at the site below:
Only about 2,000 people visit Mount Washington during the winter months, but more than 260,000 journey to the peak during the summer. There are multiple ways to get to the peak when the weather is warmer. Some hike. Others drive or take the historic cog train. For information on those options visit these sites.
