Burlington, Vermont - May 15, 2009
The Vermont Health Department is urging some raw milk drinkers to consider a rabies vaccination. Twenty-one people drank raw milk from a rabid cow in Lamoille County. There is no documented case of a human becoming infected with rabies by drinking raw milk, but the Health Department recommends anyone who drank it to discuss treatment with their health care provider.
Raw milk can contain a wide variety of harmful bacteria or viruses not found in pasteurized milk.
