Lance MacKenzie grew up in Watertown, NY and graduated from Jefferson Community College in 1988. He transferred to Lyndon State College in 1991 and completed his studies with an emphasis in television production and videography.
In his final semester at Lyndon, Lance participated in a photojournalism internship at WCAX. Upon completion of the internship, Lance was hired as a member of the news photography staff.
In 1994, Lance moved to Anchorage, Alaska to become a photojournalist at KTUU. Lance relocated a year later to Louisville, Kentucky to work on the photo staff at WAVE 3 News.
Lance returned to Vermont rejoining the Channel 3 news photography department in 1996.
Over the course of his photojournalism career, Lance has been recognized by numerous organizations. He has consistently placed among the top-three finishes in the National Press Photographer's Association regional television photojournalism contests and a handful of top-three finishes in the NPPA national contests. Lance's work has been nominated for a regional Emmy and several news stories he shot have been awarded top honors in the Vermont Associated Press Awards.
Fate entered Lance's life in 1997 when he was given a Broadway Introduction on the Late Show with David Letterman after answering a payphone on W 53rd Street in New York City. This led to his marriage to his wife Allison three years later. They live in the Town of Georgia and have two children, Isabella and Lucas.
