The Vermont National Guard learned Thursday that its mission in Afghanistan may change.

About 1,500 men and women will deploy to the war zone later this year. The original plan called for the troops to be scattered throughout Afghanistan.

Thursday, Major General Michael Dubie announced all the troops MAY work in one centralized zone. It is not clear if it is a low- or high-violence area of the country.

The guard will be working with the Macedonian Army. The newly-elected president of Macedonia will travel to Vermont sometime this month to meet with Vermont National Guard leaders.
