Guilty Plea in Double Fatal Crash

St. Johnsbury, Vermont - October 9, 2009

A St. Johnsbury man admitted he killed his friends in a car crash.

23-year-old Richard Cole pleaded guilty to two charges of gross negligent operation with death resulting and violating conditions of release.

21-year-old Derek MacKay of St. Johnsbury and 22-year-old Matthew Greenwood of Wheelock were killed.

Police say Cole lost control of his car and hit a utility pole in Lyndon last September. Weeks after the accident Cole was arrested again for being at an underage drinking party.

Cole will spend 3 to 12 years in prison.
