Christine Hinkel is currently the producer of WCAX's 6 p.m. weekday broadcast.
Christine has spent most of her life in Vermont. Her family moved to Shelburne from Massachusetts when she was just 5 years old. She attended Shelburne schools and graduated from CVU in 1989.
Christine graduated Penn State in 1993 but didn't discover journalism until 1995 when she did an internship in the Environment Unit at CNN in Atlanta. While there she was chosen to work on a CNN Presents special about the New Hampshire Primary that aired in February 1996.
Christine moved back to Vermont in 1996 and was hired part time by WCAX to run TelePrompTers, cameras, or graphics during live broadcasts, but she really wanted to be in the newsroom. She got her wish the following year when she was hired as a reporter and associate producer on the Saturday evening and weekday morning broadcasts. In the years that followed Christine has focused exclusively on producing, working on the weekday evening broadcasts. In 2003, she was part of the team to win the Edward R. Morrow award for best small market television broadcast in the nation. In 2010 she was chosen to help create and launch "The :30," a weekday news talk show that airs at 5:30 p.m. After focusing on that broadcast for over a year, she returned to producing the 6 p.m. weeknight broadcast where she remains today.
Christine lives in Essex with her husband and daughter.
