Holiday Decorating-Traditional With A Twist

'Tis the season to deck the halls once again, and who better to get some tips from, than Kris Engstrom from In Full Bloom. This year, she tells us her theme is "Traditional with a twist". The "twist" with her decorations this year, is color. There's no red!

"Green and white is soft and quiet, but it's got an elegant sort of twist to it. And you can do a lot with it. It's very flexible. There are a lot of little elements in this one. The base is mixed greens, the container brings it all together because it has a little bit of green too. But the cream, and the natural colors sort of get muted down, and just a little hit of sparkle."

Kris is using a lot of metal this season.

"This metal container has an interesting texture that works so well with all of the winter greens. Metal is wonderful. It enhances, and it works and it's very trendy right now, so we play it up and we play it down."

The colors of the Christmas tree in the living room and copper, gold and silver.

"Mixed metals, again. Copper, gold, silver and it all blends together, and words for a lot of people's colors. It's a beautiful combination that works."

And Kris likes to add a natural touch with some owls on the mantel.

"Yes, a little natural touch! They're so cute, and they work with the green and white."

The best part of these displays is that they span the seasons. With very few changes, you can take a holiday specific items out of the arrangements, and make them extend all winter long.
