Bizarre crash in Berkshire

Berkshire, Vermont - December 31, 2009

Icy roads led to a bizarre accident Thursday in Franklin County.

Police say a car went out of control on Watertower Road in Berkshire, slid into the path of a dump truck and ended up under the truck as both vehicles went off the road. The woman in the car was literally buried under the truck and tons of corn silage.

It took rescuers about an hour-and-a-half to get her out-- and amazingly, she was not hurt.

"Usually, you expect the worst and you're pretty close to getting the worst when you see an accident like this. It's very rare that somebody would walk away," Assistant Berkshire Fire Chief Irving Wetherby said.

Rescuers said the woman was lucky to be alive.
