More Vermont Guard members are on their way to serve overseas.

Thursday morning 45 members of the Air National Guard's 158th security force left for training in Texas. They'll be stationed at an air base in Saudi Arabia. The squadron will provide base security, visitor escorts, and other routine duties. It is the force's eleventh deployment.

"There's a reason why the United States military calls on Vermonters," said Gov. Jim Douglas, R-Vermont. "That's because the Green Mountain Boys have done such an outstanding job for literally centuries. The battlefields have changed but the mission and objective is the same: to ensure peace and freedom prevail around the world."

The Air Guard squadron is expected to return in November.
