Bennington, Vermont - May 14, 2010

A Bennington woman is facing numerous hate crime charges for an alleged string of incidents in late April.

Police tell the Rutland Herald that 28-year-old Sara Ennis and her boyfriend, 28-year-old Timothy Dufresne, yelled racial slurs at numerous people, including children, and threatened them with a handgun that shoots BBs.

Ennis, who pleaded not guilty, is being held without bail and will be charged as a habitual offender, which could get her 30 years to life in prison.

Dufresne, a self-proclaimed neo-Nazi, is also being held without bail for allegedly stabbing a man in the eye with a broken broom handle earlier in the month. He'll also be charged as a habitual offender, and the state says more charges will likely be filed against him based on the alleged incident with Ennis.
