Deadly crash in Cavendish

Cavendish, Vermont - May 18, 2010

Vermont State Police are investigating a fatal accident in Windsor County.

Investigators say two cars crashed head-on along a curvy section of Route 103 in the town of Cavendish around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.

One of the drivers, Fred Baldwin, 81, of Chester, was pronounced dead at the hospital in Springfield. The other driver, David Altman, 23, of Bethel, was airlifted to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center with serious injuries.

The crash closed a three-mile section of Route 103 between Route 131 and Route 10 several hours.

Police are still investigating the cause of the crash. Anyone with information is asked to call the Vermont State Police in Rockingham at 802-875-2112.
