First stop on the World Creemee Tour is the Dairy Creme on Route 2 between Montpelier and Middlesex-- and what a fist stop it was! The Dodge Family has been operating this creemee stand for the past 14 years, but this place has been around since "Leave it to Beaver" days! The actual creemee machines are from the 1940s, and the building has that midcentury glam going for it! Penne Dodge tells me they have lots of regulars who come a couple of times a week. The orders are often the same; sometimes the regulars don't even tell them their order and just put the money down and wait for the usual to come up at the next window.
They're efficient here, taking orders at one window and delivering the goodies at the other, so the person handling the money isn't the same person handling your ice cream. There is also a varied selection of those yummy hard coatings, beyond the usual chocolate and butterscotch. They have a wild, blue-looking raspberry coating, toasted coconut, and chocolate peanut butter to name a few. If you want to know the creemee flavors that they have this week, go to their web site at www.dairycreme.com.
Are these the best creemees in the land? They just might be. But with so many recommendations coming in, I'm sure I have to check out several more to be sure!
